JOHN KIKANU BYARUGABA

Executive Director

John is among the SIHCI founding members, serves as Executive Director of SIHCI, responsible for overseeing and coordinating SIHCI-wide governance issues, including resource mobilization, strategic planning donor relations, board management, partnership development and staff deployment. Previously, he served as a program Coordinator, HIV/AIDS for Inter-Religious Council of Uganda. In this role, he was responsible for supervising the entire HIV/AIDS department and member of the top management team. His main focus was on HIV and AIDS overseeing 80 implementing local NGOs (grantees) targeting PHAs, OVC, local district Assemblies and health facilities through capacity building interventions focusing on strengthening integrated service delivery systems, community development, financial transparency, accountability systems and performance based funding as well as governance systems development.

 

Prior to this engagement, he worked for Plan International a child focused international organization as a program Unit manager in Uganda which was focusing on Education, Health and HIV/AIDS.John Kikanu Byarugaba (2002 – 2005) served as a board member on Hope for African Children Initiative (HACI) a Bill Gate’s 4 year funded Youth HIV/Reproductive Health project representing World Conference on Religion for Peace in UgandIn the course of his carrier he worked with Lions Aid Norway coordinating Eye care programs in the Districts of Masaka, Rakai, Mpigi and Kalangala in the central Uganda.

 

His working experience was built from working with the Uganda Red Cross Society in the Primary Health Care Department. He started gaining experience in 1994 starting from basics of primary health care principles in a hostile social-cultural environment at that time. In all; his technical experience include public health in particular with health systems including community health, leadership and management of programs, strategic planning, training, counseling, communication and training, M&E tools, mentoring and couching through participatory performance based feedback mechanisms, systems strengthening including governance and organizational development. Mr. John Kikanu Byarugaba is a graduate with Masters Degree in Social Sector Planning and Management from Makerere University Kampla.

KENNETH BYOONA KABYANGA

 Director of Programmes

Kenneth is a Public Health specialist with a rich experience in Health communication, advocacy for health and partnership building. Kenneth holds a number of academic credentials including among others, Resource Mobilization, Public Relations Strategic communication for Development Projects, Journalism and Media Management, Public Sector Procurement as well as Social Work & Social Administration.In his caeer, Kenneth has supported a number of organisations including AMREF, Ministry of Health, Kampala City Council, Inter-Religious Council of Uganda among others to promote and advocate for health as well as build partnerships for development.He has a rich experience in research areas of public health concern and health communication. His contribution to research has been on Community support systems for Antiretroviral Therapy adherence, Male involvement in PMTCT, Malaria epidemiological surveillance, Community support to prevent and mitigate diabetes and Health promotion through the media.

 

For a long time Kenneth has been engaged in Health promotion through advocacy and social mobilization, but most importantly through IEC message and material development as well as media programming. This has been done for both routine programming as well as crisis management in times of crisis like epidemic outbreak or mass national campaigns. Important campaigns include; Ebola outbreak, Malaria epidemic in SW Uganda, and Cholera outbreak across the country. Health promotion campaigns include Blood donor promotion, Mass polio campaign, Mass mosquito net distribution, Vitamin A promotion and promotion of mental health care and support.

 

 

WEMBABAZI BEATRICE

Project Coordinator

Beatrice is a professional Public Health specialist with vast experience in Social, community development and Health programs. She holds a number of academic credentials including among others, Public Health majoring in Health promotion, Development Studies, Education secondary, Public administration and Management, Administrative Law, Resource Mobilization plus guidance and counseling. She is experienced in working with rural and grass root communities, district and urban local government structures, National and International/development partners. She has a vast experience in sustainable advocacy, M&E and social work especially in group dynamics, youth mobilization,Public Health programs, planning and incidence management. She has wide in HIV prevention, Care and Support interventions for PHAs and OVC, Family planning and Reproductive Health services.

MOSES MUGIRA

Clinical Adviser

Moses is a trained Clinical Officer with vast experience in Clinical medicine and community Health. He is qualified in providing clinical care for HIV patients as well as handling emergencies in case of accidents at a first point of contact. Moses also prides in experience of preventive medicine in a community setting. He is well versed in community sensitization, epidemic risk assessment and response.  He guides SIHCI on clinical interventions.

JANE AGIRO

Adminstration and Finance Assistant

Jane is a seasoned Account technician with a Level 1 Certified Public Accounts and vast experience in organizational management. At SIHCI Jane runs the Finance and Admin portfolio while ensuring organizational resources are intact.

LUTAAYA MARK LORGAN

Communications Assistant

Lorgan has experience in different areas communication especially Liaising and networking with stakeholders,communicating with target audiences and managing customer relationships,Sourcing advertising opportunities and placing adverts in the media. He is experienced in development and production of IEC materials including leaflets, posters, flyers, newsletters, e-newsletters and DVDs and organizing photo shots.He has experience in project planning, management and implementation with a hands on experience in record trucking, accountability,community sensitization and advocacy..

JALIA NAMBOWA

Sociologist

Jalia is a graduate of Psychology, guidance and counseling with ability and skills in providing psycho-social counseling to clients in a hospital and community settings. She has accumulated her experience in maternal and child care, reproductive health, counseling, community mobilization, referral, palliative care counseling, follow up and sensitizations

NAKONDE ZAITUNI JAMILIA

Project Nurse

Jamila is an innovative responsible individual, adaptable and a Nurse by professional who cope very well with others .Being a team player and self motivated, with academic credentials in Dispensing Medicine, and comprehensive  Nursing, Jamila has got vast experience in Administering Drugs, Giving health education, preparing and sterilizing instruments ,documentation ,wound dressing, making complete referrals ,community sensitization and reporting.

SILVIA ATWONGIRWE

Project Nurse

Silvia is a qualified and registered comprehensive nurse with vast experience in reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. She has wide experience in family planning, immunization, antenatal, HIV counseling, nutrition in pregnant mothers and children, testing as well as management of STIs.
